Llegar a ser (im)paciente

Este artículo analiza los distintos sentidos que se atribuyen a la figura del paciente. Metodológicamente se sigue en ello a Simone de Beauvoir quien tematizó cómo los distintos rasgos identitarios se constituyen en una dinámica entre lo propio y lo intersubjetivo a lo largo del tiempo. La condición de ser paciente se examina en dos dimensiones: como una relación existencial con la enfermedad y como un rol en la relación médico-paciente. En la primera parte, se presenta el modelo “paciente”: la relación existencial marcada por la pérdida y una condición epistémicamente insignificante en la relación con el profesional médico. Para ello reviso distintas descripciones fenomenológicas de la enfermedad. En el otro extremo de estas apreciaciones se situarían experiencias de lo “impaciente”, marcadas por la actividad: la relación existencial con la enfermedad es la de negociación con uno mismo y con el mundo y la relación con el profesional de la salud marcada por la búsqueda común de soluciones. En esta parte me baso en Isabelle Baszanger y Annemarie Mol. Se concluye que ambas formas de concebir al paciente son extremos de un eje entre las que transcurre la experiencia de convivir con una enfermedad.
