Author Guidelines

SUBMISSIONS

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check that their submissions meet all of the elements shown below. Submissions which do not meet these guidelines will be returned to authors.

• The proposed contribution to the journal must be unpublished and original.
• Authors declare that the results presented are not fictitious, invented, plagiarism or scientific fraud.
• The authors declare that all of them have participated in the design, planning, analysis, obtaining and discussion of the results presented in the contribution.
• The contribution proposed to the journal will not be submitted in parallel to other journals or publication information systems while it is in the process of evaluation or publication in Enclaves del Pensamiento.
• The authors accept and comply with the editorial policies and submission guidelines of the journal Enclaves del Pensamiento.
• The authors, if applicable, state in the acknowledgement section the name of the funding institution and country of origin, the project number; as well as the name of the people who helped to improve the obtaining and realization of the contribution submitted to the journal.
• In case the contribution submitted is related to confidential information, testimonial information of any person/organization, commercial or financial relationship of a product or service The authors declare to have the corresponding permissions for its publication under Attribution-Non Commercial license (CC BY-NC 4.0 International). Likewise, the Director/Editor of En-Claves del Pensamiento will be notified via e-mail at editor@enclavesdelpenamiento.mx.
• The contribution submitted to En-Claves del Pensamiento is directly related to the thematic axes of the journal.
• The contribution submitted to En-Claves del Pensamiento correctly refers to the primary or secondary sources of information that support the research proposed to the journal.

 

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

FOCUS

En-claves del pensamiento is an open access scientific journal published since June 2007 with eISSN: 2594-1100. Our objective is to disseminate research in the Humanities: Philosophy, Art, History and Literature. Preferably, we are interested in attracting articles tackling topics relating to vulnerability as an ontological, ethical and political category which also reflects on history, literature and the arts. The language of the publication is in Spanish and English, we include the title and the abstract of the article in English with the goal of giving the Journal larger international visibility.

SCOPE

 

The Journal is specially directed to Ibero-American community of researchers and professors in the humanistic field, as well as graduate students in this same area.

 

FREQUENCY

Continuous two issues per year publication: January-June and July-December.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Submissions must be original and unpublished, and must not have been submitted simultaneously for consideration to another journal. PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Process of editorial review:

The evaluating and selecting process is made of the following steps:

-  Sending the text. Authors must guarantee in writing that the same text has not been simultaneously sent to other publication and that, in any case, it is an original and previously unpublished text. Authors will be responsible for complying with this rule and other conditions set forth in the checklist.

- Acknowledgement of receipt. This will be sent by the Plataform OJS when the submission is finished. If the receipt is not received please inform to our technical support.

- Early validation. Before sending the text to the evaluators, the Editorial Committee carries out an early validation, in a twenty-day period, to corroborate if the text complies with the minimum prerequisites relating to originality, style, extension, scientific quality and content (and that the article falls within the journal’s academic field). Also, the text will be submitted to a plagiarism detection software.

Academic review process

- Double-blind peer review: Once the process of the early evaluation is completed, the Editorial Committee selects two evaluators external to the publishing institution and the author’s institution, accordingly to the specialty, qualification and independence. The evaluators will review the text without knowing the name of the author or authors (double blind). In the case that there is a disparity between the two evaluations the text would be sent to a third evaluator.

Based on the recommendations of the evaluators the Editorial Committee:

1. Publish unmodified
2. Publish with minor corrections, there is no need of a second review on behalf of the evaluators.
3. The publication is conditioned to significant changes made to the text.
4. Publication is not recommended.

- Evaluation procedure. Evaluators will have evaluation form that must be used as guide. Additional comments are welcome to the options on the form.

-Evaluation guarantee. Even though the evaluation has the guarantee of being anonymous, when selecting the evaluators, the idea is to avoid conflicts of interest. The identity of the authors will remain anonymous, except in the case of the thematic dossier, which is judged single blind.

- Reply to the answer. The result of the evaluation will be communicated to the author or authors in a period no longer than six months. In case the evaluators accept the text but requested that significant changes were made for its publication, an amount of time would be given to the author (between fifteen days and three months, depending on the amount of the changes), so they can be incorporated in the text and the author can then submit a new version of the text which would be reviewed by the Editorial Committee to corroborate that the changes suggested to the text were made.

- Communication of the evaluation result. En-claves del pensamiento will communicate to the author the result of the evaluation and will send the two coinciding evaluation forms, guarantying the anonymity of the evaluators. The result of the evaluation is final.

-  Exclusions. In every case, the criteria for rejecting a submission are: 1) if the text doesn’t fall within the field of interest of the journal; 2) if the text exceeds the extension according to the type of collaboration; 3) if it doesn’t use the appropriate referencing system; 4) if the texts is not submitted in the requested media; 5º) authors may not publish in two consecutive issues of the journal, and 6) if an author has already published  in the journal, he/she will have to wait a period of 5 years after the publication of his/her last article to republish/submit an article.  These cases will be reviewed by the journal Committee taking into account the limited number of articles published in each issue, seeking diversity of authors, international cooperation and limiting Editorial inbreeding.

 

- Responsibility. The Editorial Committee is not responsible for the opinions put forward in the published articles.

SECTION POLICIES

ARTICLES

Articles: research papers in the field of humanistic disciplines: philosophy, art, history and literature. We are preferably interested in attracting papers that address issues related to vulnerability as an ontological, ethical and political category that is also reflected in history, literature and the arts. This section is open for the submission of scientific contributions. The submissions will be evaluated through a double-blind peer review process by at least two reviewers, complying with the criteria of academic quality and impartiality.

Dossier: Research papers that contribute to the understanding of vulnerability from different humanistic disciplines. This section accepts submissions based on the calls for papers. If the editor of the dossier considers that the articles received do not correspond to the perspective and approach sought, they will be reassigned to the Articles section, notifying the author, where they will be evaluated anonymously by at least two reviewers. In case the articles are considered pertinent for the dossier, the papers will be evaluated through a single-blind peer review, by at least one pair of reviewers.

Book reviews: Papers commissioned and supervised by members of the Editorial Committee, which make an argued critique of recently published books in the Humanities. This section does not accept open submissions.

Interviews and Reflections: Papers commissioned and supervised by members of the Editorial Committee when it is considered that there is a relevant issue of interest to the scientific community in the humanities. This section does not accept open submissions.

 

AUTHORS’ PRESENTATION

Authors’ metadata: it is mandatory that authors provide full name and surname, ORCID, as well as full details of their institutional affiliation, country and institutional e-mail. They must register each metadata in the OJS and, in addition, in the Curricular Data file.

Curricular data: In a separate file, in all cases, authors should attach a brief curriculum vitae (in Spanish and English) in which they give an account of their main publications and also reflect the thematic areas of their research. This file should include the metadata for each author in the paper.

PRESENTATION OF CONTRIBUTIONS

Articles: results of original research and will have an average length of 8,000 - 10,000 words. You can download the template here.

• Files should be sent in Word.
• They must present the abstract, as established in the previous section.
• They must present keywords or phrases, as established in the previous section.
• The margins must be 2.5 cm top and bottom, and 3 cm, left and right side.
• The text must be sent in Times New Roman font. The font size throughout the body of the text and headings at all levels (title, subtitle, sub-subtitle, etc.) should be 12 points, 11 points for long quotations in separate paragraphs, titles and captions of tables and figures, and 10 points for footnotes.
• The line spacing for the entire body of the text and all levels of headings should be 1.5. Single line spacing should be used for long quotations in separate paragraphs, figure and table captions, and footnotes.
• Long dashes or dashes should be used instead of short dashes.
• Articles should have a maximum of 60,000 characters.

Language: the article must be submitted in Spanish with an English version of  the title, the abstract and the keywords.

Abstract

The abstract must strictly comply with the following aspects:

• Length: the abstract must be no shorter than 200 nor larger than 250 words.
• Structure: the abstract should be written in a single paragraph.
• Content: the abstract should be a brief and complete synthesis of the content of the article. It should be read in order to know the fundamental aspects of the research presented. In this regard, it should explain the objective of the research; the main findings; how the research result was organized or obtained; as well as the main conclusion.

Keywords

The keywords or phrases must rigorously comply with the following aspects:

• Length: minimum four and no more than six key words or phrases.
• Structure: keywords or phrases should be presented in lower case and separated by a comma.
• Content: keywords or key phrases are the labels that allow the location and retrieval of the scientific contribution. In this sense, it is important to present specific keywords or phrases, not general ones, so that when reading them they represent unequivocally the fundamental content of the research carried out. The keywords or phrases have a direct relationship with the Title of the manuscript submitted; for example: “Mexican literature of the 20th century” is a specific phrase, while the words “literature” or “20th century” are too broad terms that do not distinguish the content.

Heading: the levels of the headings should be clear. The title of the article should be justified to the right, all capital letters. The rest of the subtitles should be justified to the left, leaving two white lines before and one after them. The first level of subtitles should be in bold and only the first letter of the subtitle and proper names should be capitalized. The next level should be in italics and the third level normal letters. No heading level should end in a period. The first paragraph after any heading or blank line should be left justified and not indented. All paragraphs of text should be in Times New Roman; the font size should be 12 point and 1.5 line spacing. All paragraphs following the first paragraph after the heading or blank line should begin with an indentation of 1.25 cm. on the first line.

Figures: refers to the illustrations/images/figures/diagrams/photographs that accompany the text. Figures have a caption, which is numbered in sequential order from the first figure to the last. Figures will not have a title on top and all pertinent information will be given in the figure caption. If the information used to make the figure was obtained from a source other than the research carried out for the article presented, the reference of said source should be indicated. Likewise, the figure should be accompanied by a caption indicating the reference of the image presented. If the image is by the author of the article, this should also be indicated

Tables and charts: the numbering of tables and charts is independent of the numbering of figures. In addition to the information that justifies them, tables and charts have headings, columns, rows and notes. The titles of tables and charts should be as short and clear as possible and should not suggest any interpretation of the information they are presenting. Table titles should not have a period, but all captions should end with a period.

Use of quotation marks: double quotation marks will be used exclusively to enclose textual quotations; single quotation marks will be used to indicate theoretical terms or concepts to be highlighted or emphasized, only the first time they are mentioned, the following ones will be without quotation marks. Finally, italics should be used to give a different meaning to a word or phrase, whether it is irony, emphasis or some other colloquial meaning, or in words or phrases that do not belong to Spanish and do not have a Castilianized form. If the word is repeated more than once, only the first one will be in italics.

Footnotes: the footnote number or any other symbol that sends the reader to a footnote should be after the punctuation mark and in superscript format, the asterisk (*) should be used.

QUOTATION SYSTEM

Textual quotations:

• textual quotations that are four lines or shorter will be part of the body of the text and will be enclosed in quotation marks (","). If there are quotation marks within the quoted text, they should be changed to single quotation marks ('.'). A call to footnote should always be included; the source from which the quotation was taken must reported there.
• Textual quotations of five or more lines will be in a separate paragraph, leaving a blank line before and after the quotation. The quotation will be in Times New Roman font, a font size of 11 and single line spacing. All lines of the quotation are indented 1.25 cm. At the end of a textual quotation a footnote should always be included where the reference from which the quotation is taken will be reported. The first line after a quotation is not indented.
• All textual quotations and text that paraphrases another text or source of information should be reported in footnotes following the guidelines of the Enclaves del Pensamiento manual, which can be found here.

Translation of quotations: all textual quotations whose source is not translated and published in Spanish must be presented in the original language accompanied by a Spanish version of it. The Spanish version should be included in the body of the text and the original language version in the footnote. The footnote should include the reference to the original language text and, at the end of the reference, it must be specify who translated it, for example, with [My translation] after the end of the reference and in square brackets, if the translation was done by the author of the article. If the translation was done by someone else, the name should be included. In the event that all translations of the original versions were done by the same person, it is enough that the first time this is reported, the line [Unless otherwise indicated, all translations are mine] after the end of the reference and in square brackets.

Ejemplo:

Aquel fue su último viaje [de Barbarroja]. Pasó el fin de su vida construyendo para sí mismo una magnífica mezquita y un sepulcro monumental, del que tuvo necesidad en Julio de 1546.

References should be footnoted as specified below. Failure to comply with these rules will be grounds for rejection of the manuscript, which will be returned to the author to adjust the format of the references.

Similarly, if the author considers it pertinent to eliminate a fragment of the quoted text because such fragment does not contribute to the point to be made, the figure of [...] should be included to occupy the space of the eliminated text. It is not necessary to include this figure at the beginning or at the end of the quotation.

Footnotes: footnotes can be explanatory, providing additional information to what is being discussed in the text, but should always take care not to lose contact with the topic being discussed in the body of the text. Footnotes report references to bibliographical sources or other types of materials from which the author's opinions are paraphrased or quoted. Footnotes should be in Times New Roman, 10 point, single spaced.

The first time a source is reported it should be reported with all relevant information, the following times only an abbreviated version.
